Slipstream’s own Video Server, developed for long standing client, and leading boutique production agency Wing Productions, has this past week been distributing European news for the AEGON Tennis Championships, at Queens Club in London.

In order to streamline the news distribution process, the Slipstream developed platform takes full HD video content straight from the edit suite, and compresses the required outputs for viewing online, downloading, use in broadcast, and mobile versions for playback on the iPad and iPhone platforms. Content can be published for public use, or protected within structured permissions to allow access from certain users or clients, allowing for Embargo or Approval of content.

News editors on the move can login and make use of Slipstream’s HTML5 implementation to watch videos without the use of Flash on their mobile devices; With automatic detection the page makes use of
<video>
tags to play video content direct from the server.

As part of our work with clients online engagement and social activity, Slipstream are now beginning to roll out custom brand options for both Twitter and in particular, Facebook.

Facebook custom tabs allow your users to see a fully branded and customised tab design, either as their welcome tab for your page, or as an info tab within your page. These are great for event promotions and campaigns. Check out the example below, promoting one aspect of Volvo sponsorship within sailing, or click here.

As preparations for the 2010/11 Barcelona World Race take shape, another IMOCA 60 hits the water, and with this, a new Slipstream designed and built website is launched to accompany the Alex Thomson Racing / HUGO BOSS campaign for 2010.

www.alexthomsonracing.com

With a brief to enhance the online presence and sponsor brand positioning, we have chosen to mirror the black and white boat graphics with a clean and powerful website presence. Fan engagement is core to any sports property, and a review and setup of Social Media for ATR has taken place, leaving the team with an active and manageable presence on Facebook and Twitter.

www.facebook.com/AlexThomsonRacing

Commenting on the new site, Dan Griffey, Director of Slipstream: “It’s a great time to launch the new Alex Thomson Racing site. Not only is it the start of the next phase for Alex with HUGO BOSS sponsorship, but an opportunity to blend a new, clean brand site for the campaign, with social media elements driving the engagement of the fan base, through Facebook Open Graph, and Twitter. ” Dan Griffey, Slipstream

An extract from the Chale website gives details ‘about the project’:

In December 2009, Chale found out that it was lucky enough to have been selected as one of only 10 communities in UK to benefit from funding for a project to become a low carbon community.

With the help of some extra funding from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and South Wight Housing Association, the Project’s primary aim will be to save energy and water in homes in Chale, resulting in reduced fuel costs. The Project will also cover other key aspects of village life – such as Food, Health, Transport, Waste and Events – and look at ways to make Chale as energy-efficient and self-sufficient as possible.

An extract from Christina’s website (http://christinafranco.com/) describes why she was forced to come off the ice:

GLOBAL EXPLORER, and conservationist Christina Franco has been collected from the Arctic Ocean, after 30 expedition days. A wide open lead (passage of open water) blocked the route; after a long deliberation with several polar experts the difficult decision was made for Christina to be collected from the ice by the next resupply plane.

After some brief rest bite in London, Christina flew out to Barneo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barneo), a temporary Russian camp located near to the North Pole. Here she has been assisting in a documentary about the drifting camp, and had the pleasure of welcoming the first team to the North Pole, who arrived in a record 41 days.

Solo polar explorer Christina Franco has completed her first week on the ice, attempting to become the first solo female expedition to reach the Geographic North Pole.

After being held in Resolute Bay with weather conditions delaying the take-off and landing of the final plane journey, Christina was able to set off on her expedition on Wednesday 3rd March at 19:00 GMT. From a drop off point in McClintock Inlet, Cape Discovery, where the temperature was reported to be -40deg c, the first days of the expedition have brought unseasonal ice conditions, with wide ‘leads’ in the ice to negotiate, fog, and strong NE winds causing fast drift for the moving plates of ice close to the coast of northern Canada.

In her first expedition week she has remained in good spirits, acclimatising to the extreme cold and building on her training and expedition experience from 2009. Daily progress has been good, consistently covering about 5 nautical miles a day. To deal with the rubble of ice blocks she has adopted an effective technique of pulling one sled at a time before returning for the second one – a technique allowing each sled to be lighter and easier to handle amongst the broken ice. Speaking yesterday in her daily audio diary, Christina commented; “…it is just broken ice the size of three story buildings, and dragging my sled even one at a time was absolutely exhausting. I go through the day with a mixture and cocktail of emotion – fear, hunger, pain in various sizes.”

Position at 10 March 2010: Lat: 83.2035 N / Long: -77.4122 E

The women’s Olympic moguls event at Cypress Mountain ran despite fears of cancellation due to extraordinarily poor weather conditions. Competitors and spectators were besieged by strong winds and relentless rain that ran from start to finish.
For the Olympic athletes, this made for very slushy ‘grippy’ conditions, with mist and poor visibility. In front of a 12,000 capacity crowd in the floodlit moguls arena, Great Britain’s eighteen year old Ellie Koyander, got TeamGB’s Olympic participation off to an exciting start, finishing in 24th place and narrowly missing out on a place in the moguls final.

Commenting on the event, Ellie said: “I was so pleased with my performance tonight – there was a tricky moment coming into the first jump where the slush grabbed at one of my skis – this pulled me slightly off balance into my 360, the slush then grabbed me again on the landing. I managed to recover control and hit the technical middle section with all the speed that I have been working so hard on; That was the only thing that cost me a place in the final.”
Ellie continued, “Most of all, I was really pleased with my time – it was right up there with the field and I went huge with my backflip off the kicker. Today was really slushy and with droplets of water forming on my goggles it was like skiing blindfolded – but I laid down a great run! I’m just feeling absolutely incredible right now, it’s an amazing experience out there! To ski in the Olympics and to now call myself an Olympian is just amazing. I’ve just learnt so much coming here, it’s the biggest crowd i’ve ever skied in front of and to really stay focused in the Games has been a great experience.”

Coach Pat Deneen commented, “Ellie was right there in the game tonight, this has been such an important building block for the Sochi Winter Olympics, in 2014, and I have no doubt whatsoever that knowing what we have achieved in the past 3 years, Ellie will be a podium contender in 4 years time – she has done TeamGB proud .’
